District Partners with Parent Groups to Host Virtual Community Workshop: Finding Balance in the Age of Addiction

Los Gatos, September 12, 2025: The Los Gatos-Saratoga Union High School District, in partnership with the Los Gatos HS Home & School Club and the Saratoga HS Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) invite students, families, staff, and community members to attend an upcoming virtual workshop, Finding Balance in the Age of Addiction, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 6:00 pm.

This timely event comes as the district has implemented its first-ever cell phone policy this school year, designed to support student well-being, focus, and balance. The workshop will provide tools and insights for navigating technology use in an age of constant digital stimulation.

The webinar will feature Dr. Anna Lembke, Professor and Medical Director of Addiction Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. A nationally recognized expert in the field of addiction, Dr. Lembke is the author of Drug Dealer, MD and the bestselling Dopamine Nation: Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence. She also appeared in the Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma.

In Dopamine Nation, Dr. Lembke writes, “The smartphone is the modern-day hypodermic needle, delivering digital dopamine 24/7 for a wired generation.” Her talk will explore the science behind compulsive overconsumption, the benefits of taking a digital hiatus, and practical strategies for finding balance in a dopamine-overloaded world.

As a special offering, the first 50 registrants will receive a free copy of Dr. Lembke’s book, Dopamine Nation.

This event is open to all students, families, staff, and community members.

“As a district, we are committed to supporting the whole child,” shared Superintendent Heath Rocha. “In alignment with our new cell phone policy, this workshop is an opportunity for us to work together to help our students and each other find a balance in our digital world.”

Dr. Anna Lembke is Professor and Medical Director of Addiction Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine, Program Director of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Fellowship, and Chief of the Stanford Addiction Medicine Dual Diagnosis Clinic. She has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and commentaries, testified before the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, and serves on several state and national boards.
